Your Frazier Park Branch Library: The Kern County Supervisors Vote Tuesday on the Budget

Frazier Park, CA (Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.)—The budget plan for Frazier Park Library remained intact as last proposed (maintaining the 7% budget cut, in line with other departments). At today’s meeting, recorded calls from Frazier Park residents Bob Mills and G. Rick were played in session for the supervisors to hear—eloquent pleas championing continued funding for the library. The board voted in a unanimous 5-0 decision to adopt the budget as previously discussed, which includes continued funding of Frazier Park Library.

Frazier Park, CA (Monday, Aug. 24, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.)—On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020 at 9 a.m. the Kern County Board of Supervisors will open a public hearing that will culminate in casting their final votes for the 2020-2021 annual budget. This year has demonstrated that one of the most at-risk services in this county is its library system. The supervisors began their budget votes on July 30 by agreeing to massive cuts in the library budget, that would reduce the county library system to 7 branches. At one time it had 30 branches. Public response to that vote was passionate. The supervisors reversed their decision, they said. But citizens were warned that things can always change at the last minute.

The Frazier Park Branch Library has been a mecca of cultural activity and plain old fun for the entire Mountain Communities region. It is a joyful place that has become our community center. Talk with your friends and urge them to tune in on Tuesday morning. Sign up to be heard on behalf of our local library.
