Citizen News Report: Black Ice on Mil Potrero Highway Presents Danger

PINE MOUNTAIN, CA (Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at 2:39 p.m.)–Dave Nelson of Pine Mountain is sending out an alert about very dangerous black ice on the Mil Potrero "S" Curves coming into the Pine Mountain community. Nelson reports that this is a significant danger until cinders or sand is applied to the roadway. Motorists should proceed with great caution, he said. Nelson saw a car with a child and two adults spin out twice on the "S" curves just west of Ward. He said he reported it to the clubhouse and the CHP but has not received any assurance that any action will be taken. He added that although the weather has been warm today and yesterday afternoon, the black ice in the shadowed areas is all the more treacherous because motorists are not expecting it. All are advised to be extra-careful when driving our mountain roads.
