Golf Tournament Saturday to Benefit Merchants Association

By Gary Meyer

The Pine Mountain Village Merchants Association (PMVMA) will host its second annual golf tournament this Saturday, Sept. 18 at Pine Mountain Club Golf Course.

Tournament organizers say the fun will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and will go 18 holes as a "four-man" scramble. In non-golfer language, that means multiple teams of four people each (men and women) will all start the tournament at 9 a.m., at different tees and proceed simultaneously around the course until each has completed 18 holes.

Newcomers will be paired with players who will explain the rules. Golf clubs can be rented at the pro shop.

Registration and team assignments will begin at 8 a.m. The tournament fee is $35 and the green fee is additional.

A barbecue awards lunch will be served after the tournament by Pine Mountain Roadhouse in the courtyard at Madd Bailey’s Pub (across the highway from the golf course, between the gas station and Pine Mountain General Store). The lunch is included with the tournament fee. Non-golfers will be able to order lunch for $15.

Advanced sign-ups are being taken Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Madd Bailey’s Pub at 16200 Mil Potrero Highway, Pine Mountain, CA 93222. Players can sign up via telephone with a credit card by calling Madd Bailey’s Pub at 661-242-8439. The tournament is limited to the first 36 paid golfers. The golf course is located at 2524 Beachwood Way, Pine Mountain, CA 93222.

Organizers say the goal of PMVMA is to "enhance the community for both merchants and homeowners alike."

The Pine Mountain Club Golf Course pro shop can be reached at 661-242-3734, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days per week.
