Grass Fire at Templin Highway

TEMPLIN HIGHWAY (Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, 10 a.m.)—A vehicle fire on the northbound off-ramp to Templin Highway  started a grass fire at approximately 5:05 a.m. this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Website. By 5:28 a.m. the fire had grown to about half an acre in size on the east side of the freeway with winds blowing to the southeast. Currently, the two right lanes (#3 and #4) of northbound I-5 between CHP Road (in Newhall) and Templin Highway and the Templin Highway off-ramp have been closed for firefighting crews and heavy equipment to access the area safely. Closures are expected to continue through 1 p.m. this afternoon.
