Two Missing Snowboarders Found on Mt. Pinos

FRAZIER PARK (Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, 9:17 a.m.)—On November 28, 2010 at approximately 6:06 p.m., deputies from the Frazier Mountain Park substation were sent to the area of Mount Pinos to investigate a report of two missing subjects who were snowboarding in the area. The two subjects were identified as Joseph Willere, 25 from Lake Hughes, CA and Alan Chaney, 29 from Lake Hughes, CA. Willere and Chaney were last seen on Nordic Point at the top of Mount Pinos. Their friends became concerned and called the Sheriff’s Office after Willere and Chaney failed to meet them at a predetermined location and had been missing for approximately two hours.

Volunteers from Frazier Park and Bakersfield Search & Rescue teams went to the location to assist with a search for Willere and Chaney. Willere and Chaney were found at approximately 9:24 p.m. in the area of McGill Campground on Mount Pinos. Willere and Chaney said they were lost in the area, but was able to get back to the roadway after seeing and hearing lights and sirens from the vehicles searching the area. Willere and Chaney declined any medical attention and were reunited with their friends. There were no reports of any injuries as a result of this operation.
