Up to 150 Cats Being Removed From Cause 4 Cats

LEBEC (Thursday, May 6, 2010, 11 a.m.)—A major operation is taking place at the Cause 4 Cats facility in Lebec. A convoy of vehicles is occupying the street as Kern County Animal Control workers, including Director Guy Shaw, veterinarians, representatives from another shelter in San Diego County and Humane Society of America representatives are removing cats from the facility maintained by Lolette and Russ Robrahn, according to sources at the scene. There are reported to be up to [220] cats in the facility, which received a conditional use permit (CUP) from Kern County for 150 cats. Videographers from the Animal Planet program, "Overwhelmed," and photographers from The Mountain Enterprise are documenting some of the activities.

At this time, reports indicate that cats are being removed for possible adoption into homes. "They will all need to be checked for feline leukemia and other infectious diseases. Those that are certified as healthy will be adopted into good homes," sources told The Mountain Enterprise this morning. Read full details in the May 14 issue of the newspaper.
