Mil Potrero Hwy open—after about 100 vehicles were stuck Sunday afternoon

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 6:32 p.m.)—Mil Potrero Highway is now open without escorts. The road is clear, however there is potential for black ice and slippery conditions in several spots. Drive cautiously. Drive slowly . Morning commuters: Be very prudent. Leave early, don’t rush. Slooooow down on mountain curves, which will be icy in the morning. Be safe!

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 5:22 p.m.)—CHP is now escorting vehicles on eastbound and westbound lanes.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 5:14 p.m.)—CHP has begun escorting vehicles using the eastbound lane.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 4:45 p.m.)—All of the 100 stuck vehicles [preliminary estimate] have exited Mil Potrero Highway. According to CHP Officer Jones, at the Y, by approximately 5:15 p.m. the highway will be in condition for CHP to escort vehicles without chains. Right now, only vehicles WITH chains are being allowed to travel on Mil Potrero Highway.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 4:14 p.m.)—CHP reports that Kern County Roads Department is arriving on scene in about one minute.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 3:32 p.m.)—CHP reports that tow trucks cannot access the scene until Kern County Roads arrives. Earlier information was that Roads Department may not arrive until after nightfall.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 3:29 p.m.)—CHP will keep Mil Potrero Highway closed as vehicles leave to the east, and possibly after all vehicles have gotten out.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 3:25 p.m.)—CHP is allowing vehicles that were stuck to leave Mil Potrero Highway only to the east. They are requiring vehicles to have chains installed before they will be allowed to leave.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 3:02 p.m.)—No vehicle traffic will be allowed in either direction on Mil Potrero Highway. Tell all friends and family to stay off Mil Potrero Highway.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 2:59 p.m.)—Kern County Fire Department says it could be hours before County Roads makes it into the scene. Many vehicles and occupants could be stuck on the highway into the night.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 2:36 p.m.)—Approximately 100 vehicles are stuck on Mil Potrero Highway [preliminary estimate reported on CHP traffic incident site].

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at 1:58 p.m.)—A vehicle rollover just east of Yellowstone at about 1:48 p.m. has Milpotrero Highway closed as crews attempt to check for injuries and clear the roadway.
