Big Rig Loses Brakes On 1-5, Hits Sports Car

By Gary Meyer

A red Freightliner big rig lost its brakes on Interstate 5 just south of Grapevine and collided with a passenger vehicle, Monday, Aug. 18.

Brent Larkin, 26 of Los Alamitos and passenger Christal Bison, 25 of Cypress were traveling northbound in a 2004 Jaguar in the number two lane at 65 miles per hour, according to Officer Mark Ehly, reporting for the Fort Tejon office of the California High Patrol.

Big rig driver William Crigler, 37 of Anaheim lost control of his brakes, according to CHP’s traffic incident report. He was changing lanes to avoid collision with other northbound vehicles when he struck the Jaguar’s rear end. It spun around, veered to the right and struck the shoulder guard rail, coming to rest in the number four lane, according to Ehly. Crigler’s truck continued about five miles before stopping on the right shoulder north of Laval Road. Initial reports of a vehicle roll-over were incorrect. No injuries were reported in the crash, although an ambulance responded to the scene.
