Coach Investigated for Conduct with Student

By Patric Hedlund

The Kern County District Attorney’s office was asked on Tuesday, April 17 to consider lodging charges against the former Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Frazier Mountain High School.

Sergeant Mark Brown of the Frazier Park substation confirmed on Monday, April 23 that the woman has been investigated for allegations of having inappropriate contact with a 16-year-old male junior at the school.

“The charge would be a misdemeanor, such as ‘annoying a minor,’” Brown said, explaining the penal code. He asked for witnesses to come forward.

A school official contacted the sheriff’s office. School personnel are mandatory reporters under the law.

Allegations include that the coach had been seen kissing the minor male student.

Amy Shillig is reported to have resigned her position, telling students she wishes to spend more time with her family.

The former coach is a 2002 graduate of Frazier Mountain High School with three children, according to a biography Shillig submitted when her hiring was announced in February 2012.
