SANTA CLARITA, CA (Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at 2:05 p.m.)—Fire erupted on Magic Mountain’s Colossus roller coaster ride at about 1:30 p.m. today.

Magic Mountain officials have reportedly said the classic wooden Colossus roller coaster—which was under construction and being transformed into a hybrid wood-and-steel ride name Twisted Colossus—caught fire with part of a top section collapsing before the blaze was extinguished.

According to an unconfirmed report, a welder was working on the structure when the fire broke out.

Piñon Pines resident Donna Warda sent in the photo shown at right, taken by her co-worker Barbara Kimura. Both women work for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
