Flash Flood Watch issued for Kern County Mountains

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at 8:10 a.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Kern County Mountains, between 1 p.m. and midnight on Monday, Aug. 26. The Flood Watch advisory is below.

…FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM PDT THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH THIS EVENING…

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA…INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
AREAS…INDIAN WELLS VALLEY…KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND
SOUTHEASTERN KERN COUNTY DESERT.

* FROM 1 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THIS EVENING

* MONSOON MOISTURE WILL BE MOVING INTO THE REGION PROVIDING THE
FUEL FOR HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BY LATER MONDAY
AFTERNOON. STORMS WILL BE MOVING FROM THE SOUTH SOUTHEAST AT
LESS THAN 10 MPH. DUE TO THE SLOW MOVEMENT AND POTENTIAL FOR
HEAVY RAIN…FLASH FLOODING IS POSSIBLE.

* SOME AREAS IMPACTED BY THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH INCLUDE THE BURN
SCAR AREA FROM THE CANYON FIRE AND THE WEST FIRE AND THE PIUTE
FIRE. RED ROCK CANYON ROAD IS ALSO PRONE TO FLOODING ALONG
HIGHWAY 14. AREAS ALONG HIGHWAY 58 ARE ALSO PRONE TO FLOODING
IN THE KERN DESERT NEAR MOJAVE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
