INCIDENT COMPLETED: I-5 lanes closed due to fire

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 4:26 p.m.)—Southbound lanes #1 and #2 are now open.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 4:15 p.m.)—CHP reports that the big rig cab was completely burned and was hauling transformers.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 3:33 p.m.)—Northbound lanes are now open.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 3:30 p.m.)—Lanes are expected to remain closed until between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. CHP estimates that lanes #1 and #2 may open within that time frame.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 3:05 p.m.)—Preparations for possible evacuation of Digier Canyon are being discussed.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 2:53 p.m.)—The lane closures are for an “unknown duration” according to CHP. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 2:35 p.m.)—Kern County Helicopter 407 is en route to the fire.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 2:30 p.m.)—The incident commander has requested northbound lanes closed as well. Northbound motorists will need to exit at Fort Tejon or remain stopped on the freeway until lanes reopen.

LEBEC, CA (Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at 2:26 p.m.)—A big rig fire has ignited a hillside on southbound Interstate 5, south of Grapevine. The incident commander has ordered southbound lanes closed at Grapevine due to smoke across the lanes.
