LOCKWOOD VALLEY, CA (July 9, 2011 at 2 p.m.)—A small plane experienced engine failure and crashed in eastern Lockwood Valley off of Lockwood Valley Road yesterday, July 8 at about 4:45 p.m. The plane came down in a dry creek bed just east of Camp Sheideck in the Dry Canyon area, near Trail 100, adjacent to Dome Springs Campground.The small craft sppears to have flipped over in landing.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy William Hollowell investigated the crash. He reports that the pilot is William Thomason. The substation staff reports Thomason was heading to Lompoc from Sonoma Sky Park. Ventura County Fire Department Patrol 22 responded, as did the VCSD Lockwood substation.

Thomason and his passenger were not injured, according to the initial report.

We are seeking an interview with the pilot and will report more as further information is available.
