We invite the community to attend Saturday at 12:15 p.m. in the Pine Mountain Village gazebo to join in a standing ovation to thank retiring Chief Dennis Thompson for his “no jive” honesty with the Mountain Communities during the long struggle to secure improved emergency medical service.

The Silver Bullet Award was created by The Mountain Enterprise to recognize outstanding integrity in public service. Thompson promised to establish a firefighter-paramedic program before he retired—and he did, Kern County’s first. –P. Hedlund
