Reported by Jim Lumsden

It was a record year for precipitation in the Mountain Communities. We recorded 27.73 inches of precipitation from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 (known as the ‘precipitation year’). This is the most since 2002 when my weather station was installed for Eagles Perch (15 miles NE from Lebec within Tejon Ranch, at 6,000 feet).

The blizzard in March was a doozey, yielding about 5 inches of precipitation, but we also had nearly 5 inches in October and a surprising 9 inches in December.

These are the complete charts, showing the highest and lowest precipitation years, and the full monthby- month record from 2002 through June 30, 2011.

This is part of the July 15, 2011 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
