A day of treacherous weather began with six people being injured in a head-on collision on Frazier Mountain Park Road in Lebec.

At 10:35 a.m. Sunday, March 20, a westbound 2003 GMC Yukon driven by Richard Gross, 46 of Los Angeles entered the eastbound lane.

Bruce Schmidt, 63 of Santa Barbara was unable to maneuver his 2005 BMW X5 out of the way to avoid the collision, California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports.

Six injured parties, including a six-year-old child, were transported by Hall and AMR ground ambulance to hospitals in Bakersfield and Valencia.

CHP said that drugs or alcohol use did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

This crash occurred on the same stretch of Frazier Mountain Park Road in which another nearly fatal head-on crash occurred. In November 2008 a westbound GARDA armored vehicle hydroplaned during a rainstorm to enter the eastbound lane. The heavy truck struck a Subaru Outback driven by Gigi Day of Frazier Park head-on, flew into the air and landed on top of the smaller car. Day was severely injured and is still recovering.
