All Clear in Lebec Water; All Restaurants Open Again

LEBEC (July 10, 2010, 5:45 p.m.)—The Lebec County Water District has received an "all clear" with its water tests and restaurants are open again in the business district. A "boil water" order was necessitated as a result of repairs to the State well area and Chimney Canyon Friday.

LEBEC (July 9, 2010, 1:45 p.m.)—The Jack in the Box and other restaurants in Lebec have closed because of a ‘boil water’ notice issued by the Lebec County Water District following repair of a ruptured main line in the "State Well" zone near Interstate 5. Homeowners and businesses in the State Well and Chimney Canyon areas have been notified with door-to-door flyers about the situation.

LCWD board president Darren Hager said that the sytem’s water operator, Kris Hollands, has taken the required water samples to the state water-testing facilities in Bakersfield this afternoon and an "all clear" is expected by Saturday afternoon, following receipt of test results.

"Until we get that notice, all food service operations have to close down," Hager said. The Environmental Health and State Health Department expects to issue an answer by 3 p.m. Saturday, he added.
