High Winds Cause Power Outage on Mountain and Loss of McDonald’s Sign in Gorman

GORMAN, CA Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2011 at 9 a.m.)—After high winds caused power outages in the Frazier Mountain area on Monday afternoon for two hours, the McDonald’s sign was blown down in Gorman Monday night. Community reporter Elena Abreu and Frazier Park photographer Shanna Llewellyn both sent photos of the destruction at McDonald’s. Llewellyn, of P.R.O.P. Photography in Frazier Park, said she was called at 11 p.m. to make photos for insurance purposes. The sign was destroyed and an outdoor picnic table and benches were also ruined in the high winds.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Monday, Mar. 7, 2011 at 3:40 p.m.)—Electric power has now been restored to all areas of the mountain according to Southern California Edison spokesperson Lois Pitter-Bruce. She said the outage was caused by “high winds blowing wires down.” She could not pinpoint the location where the wires came down.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Monday, Mar. 7, 2011 at 3:20 p.m.)–Power was restored at 3:18 p.m., according to our reporter in Pine Mountain. The cause of the outage will be posted here when the information is available.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Monday, Mar. 7, 2011 at 2:20 p.m.)–Southern California Edison’s Lois Pitter-Bruce reports that the outage occured at 1:30 p.m., they do not know the cause and they have no estimate of when power will be restored. She said the boundaries of the outage were Lockwood Valley Road on the south and east, the equestrian center on the north and Cerro Noroeste Road on the west. Pinon Pines, Cuddy Valley, portions of Lake of the Woods and portions of Lockwood Valley are within the outage area and may be affected. Pitter-Bruce also said there was a momentary disruption in power for Frazier Park, but it was less than one minute. Check back at this web page for updates.

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Monday, Mar. 7, 2011 at 1:40 p.m.)–Power was lost in the community of Pine Mountain at about 1:30 p.m. Southern California Edison is looking into the problem and will notify The Mountain Enterprise of details soon. Check back at this web page for updates.
