Simba Wiley Roberts, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood and three-time VFW commander of the local VFW chapter, Wilford Bummer present wreath during emotional Memorial Day ceremony at the Cody Prosser Memorial on Monday, May 28 in Frazier Park.

New Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood presented a wreath at the Prosser Memorial in Frazier Mountain Park as crisp new service flags snapped in the wind May 28. Youngblood called Frazier Mountain, "the most patriotic place in all of Kern County." On this day, Youngblood continued, "there are no Republicans or Democrats, there are only Americans…."

Coordinator Simba Roberts introduced Katherine King, who said "Our sons and daughters go to war to defend our Constitution…we have a duty to care for them when they return—both before and after we pin medals on them and call them heroes. We must care for their burned bodies, lost limbs…and the wounds deep and debilitating to the mind. They make heroic attempts to become ‘ordinary’ again. We have a duty to support them and never forget the horror of war…."

Frankie Sanchez was given an Award of Merit for his tireless efforts to support veterans of the mountain through VFW and VALOR. "Why’d you do this?" He asked Roberts, "Because I love you buddy, and all the things you do for our brothers here," Roberts replied.

VFW Commander Lester Arterburn said a prayer, asking for "peace, victory and righteousness…"
