Multiple accidents on southbound I-5 cause havoc

GORMAN, CA (Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at 9:12 p.m.)—Four (possibly five) separate traffic collisions on southbound Interstate 5, including one on the northbound side, have created problems for motorists returning to the Los Angeles area after the weekend.

The collisions began at about 7:15 p.m. with one near Quail Lake Road, another one 40 minutes later near Smokey Bear Road, followed by a collision 30 minutes later on the northbound side just south of Highway 138. Another collision reported at 8:37 p.m. near Smokey Bear Road was possible the same as the previously reported at the same location.

Just before 9 p.m. another crash was reported on southbound I-5 near Quail Lake Road.

At about 9:08 p.m. another crash was reported near Smokey Bear Road, just south of Quail Lake Road.

The status of injuries are uncertain at this time as several reports only provide “unknown injuries” or “no injuries.”

Construction projects along this stretch of Interstate 5 have presented motorists with confusing choices at times, with some local commuters saying it’s unclear whether one should go left or right as lanes are routed around work areas.
