The First Annual Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce (MCCOC) Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament was held this month.

“King of the Mountain… Communities” was coined as the tournament’s name.

We kept it on the small side this year, as it was “uncharted territory” for us to hold such an event. Now that we have this event “under our belt,” we look forward to it growing over the years and gaining a reputation as an entertaining annual fundraiser for the MCCOC.

Thanks to those that helped us put it together: Toni de Leeuw for planning and structure; Peter Kjenaas (and the Mountain Shakespeare Festival) for insight and donations; and Bob Saberhagen for his advice. More thanks go to those who made it happen on the day of the event: Mike Gates, Tommy Natoli, Conrad Schwarm, Suzette Martin, Kim Volkmar and Jennifer Rice. Also many thanks to our server, Justen Zimmerman. The girls really got into the spirit (the picture above tells it all).

We had about 20 participants…. and four dealers who kept things moving. Thanks so much to all of you!

Thank you to Pine Mountain Club for a wonderful location and helpful staff. Many organizations and businesses donated prizes: Pine Mountain General Store, Tejon Ranch, GM Volkmar Consulting, Wine in the Pines, All Seasons Realty, Hotrod, Mike’s Pizza, Mountain Shakepeare Festival, Michael Berg, Sue’s Tavern, Hangtime/Starcycle, Interstate Towing, Lebec Automotive, Los Pinos Mexican Restaurant and La Sierra Mexican Restaurant.

Last but not least, our First Prize winner was Gary Biggerstaff. Give him big congrats because he won a seat at a World Series of Poker qualifier.

If you’d like to have another chance at Texas Hold ‘em fun, Mountain Shakespeare Festival will hold their Third Annual tournament on May 31.
